Moving Existing Trees

Where a specimen tree will not be sustainable in its present position within a development, an option may be to move it:

  • Retaining a feature that will provide instant maturity
  • Allowing the development to proceed
  • Providing a positive PR opportunity for the site

SJ Stephens Associates will assess the options, cost and manage the project.

Photos show an 18m Strawberry tree, estimated to be 180 years old, being moved within a site to allow development. The weight of tree and rootball was approximately 30 tonnes. Root pruning was carried out over a 3 year period prior to lifting, to create a more compact rootball.
